Trip Description
Day 1: Leave Kigali to transfer to Virunga national park.
You will begin your Mikeno mist package in Virunga on this day. Together with your driver guide, you will depart from your Kigali hotel and drive for five hours to the Grande Barrier border facility, where the strategically placed Virunga National Park tourism office is housed.
You will check in and get your permissions for the activities the next couple of days. After that, you’ll join the security group traveling to Virunga National Park. In time for lunch, you’ll drive to your accommodation in the park. The remainder of the day will be spent at leisure at your hotel.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking in Virunga national park.
A significant day because it is the day you go gorilla trekking. After breakfast, you will go from your accommodation and connect to the Bukima ranger post, where you will attend the morning briefing prior to your hike.
Following the briefing, you will rent any equipment you might need and depart into the forest. Because mountain gorillas prefer to stay on mountain slopes that are deeper in the forest, a mountain gorilla trek will take a little longer than a lowland gorilla trek. You will spend an hour with your designated gorilla family for the day following which you will leave the jungle for a late lunch.
Dinner will be served and you will spend another night in Virunga national park.
Day 3: Hike up the Mount Nyiragongo.
On the 3rd day of your 4 days Mikeno Mist package in Virunga national park, For this hike up Mount Nyiragongo, get up feeling energized. The ascent takes six hours. At the trailhead, you will receive a briefing that will allow you to reserve a porter or a trekking stick before you leave.
You will begin at 9 am, take two pauses for some relaxation in the middle, and arrive at the summit by 5 pm. From the summit, you will be able to glimpse the lava lake, and you will spend the night at the Nyiragongo summit shelters.
Day 4: Descend the Mount Nyiragongo and drive to Kigali.
You’ll get up early to have breakfast and see the sunrise from the top. At the summit, you’ll enjoy a quick breakfast before getting ready to return to the trailhead. By lunchtime, you will have returned to the volcano’s beginning, and your driver guide will be waiting to take you back to Kigali.
Depending on your preference, you will drive to Goma or Gisenyi for lunch before continuing to Kigali for drop-off at the hotel or the airport, as you have specified.
