Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park offers an hour-long experience with gorillas, during which time you are permitted to snap special photos as long as your flash is off.

Golden monkey tracking, which offers an encounter with the adorable golden monkeys in the bamboo zone, is another safari activity to perform at Volcanoes National Park.

Detailed itinerary.

 Day 1: Arrival and transfer to volcanoes national park. 

In order to begin your five-day Rwanda primate safari, you must fly into Kigali’s international airport on the first day and then transfer to the Volcanoes National Park. Once there, you will meet your safari guide and drive, who will give you a brief safari orientation before setting out for the park. Once there, you will check into your lodge, relax for the afternoon, and then have lunch and spend the night there.

 Day 2: mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

 On the second day of 5 Rwanda primate safari, you will wake up early in the morning and be served with breakfast, you will depart from your lodge with the packed lunch and go to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for a briefing. After the briefing, you will be allocated a gorilla group to trek with, hire a porter to help you, and then travel into the jungle in search of mountain gorillas after given the rules and regulations to abide by when tracking for mountain gorillas. One gorilla group is hiked per group every day while mountain gorilla trekking permits a minimum of 8 trekkers per group. When you come into contact with the gorillas, you will be astounded by their enormous size and temperament. As long as your torch is off, you can capture some stunning images before hiking back to the park’s administrative Centre to meet your guide and return to your lodging. You will eat dinner and spend the night at your lodge in the evening.

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Nyungwe forest. 

 On the third day of your five-day Rwanda primate safari, Get up early in the morning and be served with hearty breakfast, you’ll go golden monkey tracking before heading to Nyungwe Forest National Park. After breakfast, you’ll head to the park’s Kiningi headquarters to learn more about the activity and hear the rules and regulations that are followed during golden monkey trekking. After receiving a briefing, you will enter the bamboo forests to look for golden monkeys, an endangered species of primate that is fun to be around. You may watch the golden monkeys frolic on treetops, gather fruits to puff into their cheeks, and capture wonderful shots while you’re in their vicinity. Golden monkeys, unlike mountain gorillas, seem unfazed by the torch from the camera. After the experience, return to your lodging, eat lunch, and then set out for the afternoon journey to Nyungwe Forests National Park. Once there, have dinner and spend the night at your lodging.

Day 4: chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest

On the 4th day of the 5 Days Rwanda Primates safari. You will get up early in the morning and be served with a leisurely breakfast. After breakfast, you will drive to the park’s headquarters for a briefing before the exciting chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk adventure on the fourth day of your 5-day Rwanda primate safari. After the briefing, you will walk into the Nyungwe forests in search of chimpanzees and after being read all the rules and regulations to follow on this safari. Chimpanzees, golden monkeys, Rwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s, silver monkey, golden monkey, owl-faced monkey, red-tailed monkey, Vervet monkey, olive baboon, grey-cheeked mangabey, and three species of bush babies are among the 13 primate species that call Nyungwe Forest National Park home will be observed while searching for the chimpanzees. When you find the chimpanzee, you are to spend an hour in their presence watching the chimpanzees as they feed their young, play on treetops, and take incredible pictures. As you walk through the forests of Nyungwe, you will have the opportunity to see these primates, birds, and various species of flowing plants.

After the chimpanzee trekking, you’ll return to the park’s administrative Centre, have lunch at your lodge and then travel back for a canopy walk in the late afternoon. A high suspended metallic canopy above the tree tops is used for canopy walks, which provide aerial views of the wildlife nearby, including monkeys and birds playing in the branches.  After the workout, you’ll return to your lodge, eat dinner, and spend the night.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali and short city tour.

 On the 5th day of 5 Days Rwanda Primates safari, after breakfast, you will check out of your lodge, meet your safari driver, and start the drive back to Kigali on the fifth and final day of your five-day Rwanda primate safari. You will then have a city tour before being dropped off. A 2-hour city tour of Kigali will take you to the presidential palace, the Kigali genocide memorial site, Kimironko market, and artisan stores where you may buy souvenirs. You will be dropped up at the Kigali international airport for your trip home after the city tour.
