Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

One of the most stunning and spotless towns in Africa, Kigali offers a variety of tourist attractions, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, craft markets, Kimironko Local Market, and museums. After the city tour, you’ll eat lunch at a restaurant where you can sample a variety of dishes, and then you’ll set out for the Volcanoes National Park. It takes two to three hours to get there, and along the route you’ll enjoy stunning views of the countryside, including rolling hills, historic homesteads, and terraced farmlands. You will check into the lodge for dinner and the night after arriving at the park.

Day 2:  Mount Karisimbi hike

On the second day of the four-day Bwindi gorilla trekking safari and Karisimbi trip, you will hike Mount Karisimbi. After an early breakfast, you will meet your driver guide to proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing regarding safety precautions and what to expect when hiking Mount Karisimbi. You will travel to the starting location after the briefing, where you will receive a walking stick, be paired with an experienced guide who is familiar with the mountain, and begin hiking. You will travel through many vegetation zones while climbing Mount Karisimbi, including bamboo forests on the lower slopes, hagania hypericum woods in the higher slopes, and gigantic lobelia, where you can see a variety of wildlife and bird species. You will stop for a midway for dinner and set up tent for the night when you reach 3700 meters.

Day 3: Hike to the summit, descend down and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

On the third day of your four-day Bwindi gorilla trekking safari and Karisimbi trip, you’ll eat breakfast before starting your ascent of the mountain. You will have fantastic views of the surrounding areas, including Mount Muhabura, Mount Nyirangongo, and Mounts Nyamulagira in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After the amazing vistas, you will begin your ascent back to the starting point, where your driver guide will be waiting to take you to the resort for a late lunch. After lunch, you’ll check out of the hotel and meet your driver/guide to begin the trip to Uganda’s southwest region, where you’ll find Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The travel takes between three and four hours and passes through the Cyanika or Katuna borders in the Kisoro or Kabale districts. You will check into the lodge for dinner and the night when you arrive at the park.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and departure to Kigali

Gorilla trekking, on the final day of the four-day Bwindi gorilla trekking safari and Karisimbi hike, you will have an early breakfast, pack a lunch, and meet your driver guide to travel to the park headquarters for a briefing on the guidelines for gorilla trekking. Following the briefing, you will be divided into eight groups of four, with each group being assigned a habituated gorilla family to trek and a park guide to lead you while doing so. Mountain gorillas like to roam from one spot to another in quest of food, therefore gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park might take anything from 30 minutes to 7 hours.
