DR Congo

Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the biggest mysterious countries in Africa with beautiful scenery, landscapes consisting of dense and rippling rainforest interposed with waterfalls and seething with fascinating wildlife. Much of DRC is wild and impenetrable.  Kinshasa is the capital city situated in the far west of the country. Goma is DRC’s tourism capital as it sits on the banks of Lake Kivu in the far east of the county. It is presided over by Mt Nyiragongo at the heart of Virunga National park, the oldest national in Africa. The Goma mineral-rich Kivu region was hit by a civil war from 1998 to 2003 which lead to over three million deaths.  However peace, stability returned to Goma for the time being and some adventurous tourist are interested.

The DRC has unique tourist opportunities, including wildlife reserves, indigenous cultures, and geological wonders not found easily or anywhere else in Africa.   Twelve percent of the country is made up of protected areas including 7 national parks and 57 reserves areas, with great ecotourism potential. But, many existing tourist facilities are in poor condition because of a lack of proper maintenance. The DRC has four endemic species including Mountain Gorillas, Okapi, Bonobos, and the Congolese peacock.  Moreover, the country has a unique variety of species in its ecosystem covering almost 145 million hectares
